The Million Step March team just completed 12 weekly drawings for an iPod Shuffle, and we wanted to let you know who the winners are. Congratulations are in order for not only the prize winners, but also the hundreds of walking and physical fitness enthusiasts who continue to log your steps each week.
We're listing just first names and locations for iPod Shuffle winners among the nine who gave us permission to do so. Here they are:
Beverly, Charlotte
Courtney, Greenville
Dmitriy, Cary
James, Raleigh
Michael, New Bern
Rachel, Greensboro
Renee, New Bern
Shannon, Butner
Tracey, Monroe
For now we're keeping the Challenge online so you may continue to log your activity - though no more prizes are planned - and mark your progress toward better health.
Joe Miller, who covers the great outdoors for The News & Observer, has an update about the Million Step March on his blog, “Get Out! Get Fit!” at this link.
Joe plans to interview Kathy Higgins, and we’ll post the link once that runs.
Crossing the finish line in Wilmington was cause for celebration. Hundreds of people were on hand to welcome Kathy Higgins and Gary Marino as they brought the 600-mile Million Step March to a successful conclusion, and now we have the video that captures the moment.
Bob Greczyn, CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, explains the significance of the Million Step March and what it accomplished. This brief video clip was taped shortly after Kathy Higgins and Gary Marino crossed the finish line, ending their 600-mile walk across the state to promote physical activity.
