Step It Up Contest
The votes have been counted, and we’re pleased to announce a winner in Step It Up Contest.
At the Million Step March grand the finale event, Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines was announced as winner of Step It Up. The Girl Scout council was the top vote getter among 12 nonprofit organizations with proposed projects for promoting physical activity in North Carolina communities. Members of the public cast votes among the competing proposals at the Million Step March Web site. The Girl Scouts project is Make Every Dance Step Count.
Kathy Higgins, BCBSNC vice president of Community Relations, presented the Girl Scouts with a
$75,000 physical activity award, sponsored by BCBSNC and Be Active North Carolina. The award
will allow the Girl Scout council to implement its dance program across 41 counties. Make Every
Dance Step Count is fun way for girls, volunteers, families and community members to boost their
physical activity through dance. The program will give Girl Scouts the opportunity to explore
various styles of dance, the history and culture behind the steps, and the health benefits of
dancing.
